The initial "Open Rehearsal" of the Schuylkill Youth Symphony Orchestra will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 5:30 pm until 7:00pm at the DHH Lengel Middle School Auditorium in Pottsville.
The symphony is an outreach of the former Schuylkill Symphony and has been in existence for over nineteen years and eagerly anticipates the beginning of its twentieth season as Schuylkill County's only student symphony orchestra.School students in grades 5 through 12 who play string, wind and percussion instruments are needed to formulate an orchestra for this year's season. An audition will take place in the very near future, but this rehearsal is for students to see if they like the symphonic setting and would be interested in the upcoming auditions.Forms will be available that evening at the 'Open' Rehearsal, parents must sign the forms for students to be permitted to participate and audition the following week. Audition materials will also be distributed for the upcoming auditions along with the season's schedule of required rehearsals and performances. There is a nominal participation fee for each accepted symphony member which may be defrayed through minimal fund raising.Interested students may also get an application form from most school music teachers in the Schuylkill County area as well as many county private music teachers.
