Man passes out while driving in Schuylkill

State police at the Schuylkill Haven barracks said four vehicles were damaged and three persons hurt when a man passed out while driving at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, on SR901 in Branch Township, Schuylkill County.

Police said Raymond L. Houtz, 59, of Pottsville, was westbound in a 1991 Ford 4x4 when he passed out behind the wheel of the moving vehicle. The vehicle crossed the westbound passing lane, went across the raised median and two lanes of eastbound traffic, and left the paved portion of the roadway, striking a mailbox and then an unattended 1998 Pontiac Trans Am.After the initial impact the unattended vehicle spun counter-clockwise and came to rest. Houtz's vehicle continued and struck a 2004 Chrysler Sebring operated by Joseph R. Burns, 72, of Pottsville, which was backing out of a parking stall. After striking that vehicle the 4x4 struck an unattended 1999 Dodge 3500 Ram truck that was parked next to Burns' car.Police said all of the vehicles were towed from the scene.Houtz, Burns and the latter's passenger, Ann M. Burns, 70, all sustained minor injuries, police said.
