Man arrested in Palmerton

Two men were taken into custody in Palmerton Monday afternoon when several law enforcement agencies moved quickly to stop what they believed to be a preparation for a serious crime. State police, East Penn and Palmerton police joined forces to grab Bradley Conklin, 31, of 2201 E. Lizard Creek Road, Lehighton, and another individual after leaving a Palmerton store where it was reported they were purchasing stockings. An earlier report over the Carbon County communications radio was the two were believed to have guns in the trunk of their car. After the duo left the store they were spotted by Palmerton police driving in an alley to the rear of the store. Palmerton police quickly took the two into custody without incident. Palmerton police were quickly joined by East Penn Township police where the two reside and troopers of the State Police at Lehighton. The two were transported to the Palmerton police department and the car impounded. Conklin was arraigned before District Justice Bruce Appleton of Palmerton, where he was charged with one count each of retail theft, receiving stolen property, and public drunkenness. He was released after posting $1,000 cash bail. Palmerton Police declined to name the other individual because he wasn't charged with any crime.
