Lehighton man given jail time in assault incident

A Lehighton man was sentenced to a Carbon County jail term on Thursday after pleading guilty in an assault incident. He was one of several defendants in pending cases to enter a plea before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic.

Franklin incidentTrevor Scott Hunsicker, 21, was sentenced to serve three to 18 months in prison on a charge of simple assault. He was charged for an incident in the 500 block of Long Run Road in Franklin Township in which Dawn Frehulfer was the victim.Hunsicker said he was highly intoxicated at the time of the incident, something Nanovic expanded on by noting prior arrests involving assaults tied to alcohol abuse.Hunsicker is currently in jail on other pending charges.Nanovic gave him five days credit and ordered he get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, have no contact with the victim and attend anger management counseling sessions.Other pleasOther defendants who entered guilty pleas included:Thomas Wise, 23, of Blakeslee, pleaded to one count of theft of services. He was arrested by state police at Lehighton for not paying a bill for repairs to a truck he had done at All Points Towing in Penn Forest Township.Nanovic imposed a fine of $300 and costs. There was no restitution ordered because the victim sold the truck to get the money back.Ashley Lorraine Roberts, 24, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of defiant trespass. She was arrested for entering 132-136 N. First St., Lehighton, when she knew she was not allowed on the property. The incident occurred on June 3.Nanovic placed her on probation for a year and ordered she get a D&A evaluation and zero tolerance on D&A use. She was given credit for 15 days spent in jail on the charge. She remains in custody on other pending charges.Todd Allan George, 30, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of simple assault. He was arrested on June 4, 2008, in the area of the borough park, Lehighton, with Officer Michael Svetik of the borough police the victim.Nanovic sentenced him to serve three to 18 months in prison and ordered to continue his mental health treatment. George was given credit for 477 days in custody including an extended period of time spent in the Norristown State Hospital. He was paroled to the custody of his mother.Amy Louise Steigerwalt, 23, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of receiving stolen property. She was charged for an incident on July 24, 2007, for having in her possession a PlayStation that was stolen from the Kmart store in Walnutport. She was previously placed in the Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition (ARD) probation program for first time offenders but was revoked for violation of conditions.Nanovic placed her on probation for six months and ordered her to render 20 hours of community service.Lance Moser, 19, of Lehighton, who previously pleaded to one count of aggravated assault for an incident on Nov. 26, 2007, in Franklin Township, was sentenced to serve 12 to 24 months in a state prison. He was charged with assaulting Officer Jason Doll at the home of his mother, Mary Ann Haupt, but letting his dog attack the officer.He was ordered to get both a D&A and mental health evaluations.The prison term runs concurrent to one he is serving in Montour County.All defendants must also pay court costs and a $50 per month supervision fee.
