An elderly couple was injured Wednesday afternoon after being involved in a collision with a tri-axle dump truck along route 54 at the entrance to Lake Hauto. It appeared the truck, owned and operated by Wargo Trucking of McAdoo, was being operated east when it came in contact with the car. After the collision the truck continued across the roadway entering the berm snapping off a PPL utility pole then rolling down an embankment coming to rest on its side. The truck was loaded with asphalt paving material. PPL work crews cut away the lower portion of the pole to assist two large wreckers of Hope's Towing of Tamaqua to remove the wreckage. Route 54 was closed for several hours as the cleanup was performed with traffic control being maintained by Tamaqua Fire Police. Traffic was detoured through Lake Hauto. There was no loss of power through the incident. Rush Township police are investigating the incident.
