In an effort to recruit qualified individuals, including women and minorities, for important jobs in public safety, the Pennsylvania State Police is hosting a "Public Safety Career Day" from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Pennsylvania State Police Headquarters, 1800 Elmerton Ave, Harrisburg.

Event organizers hope to attract individuals with a desire to serve their communities."We want all individuals to know that Pennsylvania has great career opportunities for those who are committed to service and looking for ways to develop both personally and professionally," said Lieutenant Colonel Rick Brown. "We're encouraging interested applicants to consider providing a vital service to the community and a stable future for their families."Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the role Pennsylvania's public safety agencies play in their community and how to become a part of the commitment to service."Despite the commonwealth's budgetary challenges, we still must ensure that we have the most talented people providing essential public safety services to Pennsylvania's citizens," said Lieutenant Colonel Rick Brown.Agency representatives will provide first-hand knowledge about the benefits of working for the commonwealth and what it's like to serve in a public safety position. Some of these positions include corrections officers, state troopers, capitol police officers and parole agents.Representatives from several commonwealth agencies will attend the event, including the Pennsylvania State Police; Board of Probation and Parole; departments of Corrections, Conservation and Natural Resources, and General Services; Fish and Boat Commission; Game Commission and the State Civil Service Commission.State police vehicles, including a marked patrol car, the department's mobile recruitment office, horses and a helicopter will be on display, along with the Fish and Boat Commission's patrol boat.Individuals interested in careers with the commonwealth can visit
