Carbon County Fair announces winners of 2009 Baking Contests

The Carbon County Fair has released the names of the winners of the major baking contests associated with this year's fair, which was held last month.

Winners of the two Hershey's Cocoa Classic Baking Contests, the Angel Food Cake Contest, and the Blue Ribbon Apple Pie Contest, will all compete again in January, when the Pennsylvania State Farm Show convenes in Harrisburg.Hershey's Cocoa Classic, Chocolate Cake Baking ContestThere were 11 entries in the 2009 Hershey's Cocoa Classic, Chocolate Cake Baking Contest. The winners are: First place, Christina Tomsic, Palmerton; second place, Alyssa Schoch, Lehighton; and third place, Connie Wentz, Lehighton.Hershey's Cocoa Classic, Cookie, Brownie, Bar Baking ContestThere were 17 entries in the 2009 Hershey's Cocoa Classic, Cookie, Brownie, Bar Baking Contest. The winners are: First place, Amanda Steigerwalt, Lehighton; second place, Sierra Hunsicker, Jim Thorpe; third place, Matthew Eckhart, Lehighton; fourth place, Nolan Wentz, Lehighton; and fifth place, Felicia Mertz, Lehighton.Angel Food Cake ContestThere were five entries in the Angel Food Cake Contest. The winners are: first place, Tina Henrick, Palmerton; second place, Marie White, Lehighton; and third place, Connie Wentz, Lehighton.Blue Ribbon Apple Pie ContestThe Blue Ribbon Apple Pie Contest attracted 10 entries. The winners are: first place, Kyle Strohl, Palmerton; second place Amy Hillanbrand, Lehighton; third place, Connie Wentz, Lehighton; fourth place, Janine Snyder, Lehighton; and fifth place, Emily Mitchell, Weatherly.Senior Fair Special CakeThe Senior Fair Special Cake was a Banana Cake with Sour Cream Frosting. There were four entries. The winners are: first place, Violet Kemmerer, Lehighton; second place, Marie White, Lehighton; and third place, Doris Lusch, Andreas.Pineapple Upside Down Cake ContestThere were five entries in the Pineapple Upside Down Cake Contest. The winners are: first place, Kyle Strohl, Palmerton; second place, Hazle Goodhile, Lehighton; and third place, Dawn Bowman, Lehighton.Greatest Shoofly PieContestThe Greatest Shoofly Pie Contest attracted four entries. The winners are: first place, Doris Lusch, Andreas; second place Emily Mitchell, Weatherly; and third place, Tina Mertz, Lehighton.Junior Fair Special Cake, Easy Apple Cake ContestThere were six entries in this category, but no winners were declared.
