A home was destroyed by a raging fire Friday night in Lynn township. The fire was first reported about 10 p.m. just off Route 309.
When the first of several fire companies arrived on scene flames were already showing. Strong winds fanned the flames into an inferno. The flames at times shooting 30 to 40 feet in the air could be seen for miles.
The dwelling was an icon to the area bring admired by passing motorists sitting high on a hill for its unique Spanish hacienda style. The dwelling sat high on a hill above Route 309.
Firefighters were hampered by the high winds and the remote location of the fire scene having to tank water into the site. A tanker fill site was set up along Route 143 just west of Route 309 at a pond near a medical facility.
