PennDOT plow truck strikes two vehicles

A Pennsylvania Department of Transportation plow truck struck two disabled vehicles in Schuylkill County during Thursday's snow storm.

State police at Frackville said the crash occurred at 10 a.m. along Route 1017 (Lakeside Avenue), also known as 'Horseshoe Curve," in Delano Township.Troopers said Ronald Minnick Jr., 29, of Hazleton, lost control of his 2014 Isuzu box truck on the snow-covered road and became disabled in a snow bank along the berm. Joshua Rupert, 36, of Barnesville, driving a 2014 Dodge Dart, lost control of his vehicle and rear-ended the Isuzu, resulting in minor damages. The two vehicles remained at the point of impact.A PennDOT plow truck operator, who police did not identify, then lost control of his vehicle and struck the two disabled vehicles. No injuries were reported.The 2006 Mack plow truck and the Isuzu sustained minor damages while the Dart had heavy damages, troopers said.Assisting troopers at the scene were volunteers from the Ryan and Delano townships fire companies and fire police. The road was closed for about three hours due to the crash.Troopers also reported investigating a two-vehicle crash along Interstate 81 in Ryan Township on Thursday at 2:10 p.m. Troopers said Cassandra A. Kazar, 22, of Lackawanna County, driving a 2008 Honda Civic, and Kabray D. Myers, 25, of Charlotte, North Carolina, operating a 2000 Freightliner tractor with trailer, were both southbound.Kazar lost control of her vehicle on the snow-covered road and struck the guide rail along the west berm with the front end.Myers, in an attempt to avoid a collision, spun counter-clockwise and struck the embankment along the east berm. No one was injured.Both lanes were closed for an hour until the vehicles could be moved. Troopers cited Kazar for careless driving.
