A Schuylkill County driver escaped injury after his vehicle suddenly caught fire.

State police at Frackville said Joseph W. Burke, 59, of Shenandoah, was driving a 1998 GMC Safari eastbound on Schuylkill Avenue, in West Mahanoy Township, at 8:27 a.m. on Thursday when he said he heard a "bang" under his vehicle.Troopers said the vehicle then erupted into flames and soon was completely engulfed.Burke exited the vehicle safely. Shenandoah Heights Fire Company volunteers responded and extinguished the blaze.Troopers cited Burke for registration and certificate of title required.
